Patios, paths, fencing, decking, turfing and planting — the hard landscaping that makes a garden usable.
A garden is mostly groundwork. Get the levels, drainage and sub-base right and a patio sits flat for twenty years; skip it and you're relaying it after two winters.
Hard landscaping done properly
Every patio, path and driveway we lay starts below the surface: excavation to the right depth, a compacted sub-base, correct falls away from the building and proper drainage where water needs somewhere to go.
Slabs are laid on a full mortar bed rather than five dabs, and pointed with the right product for the stone. It costs a little more on day one and saves you the whole job later.
Fencing, decking and planting
Fence posts go in concrete, not soil, and we'll tell you where a boundary is likely to be disputed before we build on it. Decking is framed to take real loads and ventilated underneath.
For planting and turfing we prepare the ground rather than rolling turf onto compacted clay — soil improvement, levelling and edging first, so the lawn establishes instead of dying back in August.

Questions about this service
Hard landscaping, yes — groundwork and paving carry on through most of the year, we just avoid laying in hard frost. Turfing and planting are better in autumn or spring; we'll tell you if waiting a few weeks will give a better result.
Usually not, but there are limits — fence heights near a highway, and non-permeable paving over a certain area, both have rules. We'll flag anything that needs checking at the quotation stage.
